The Power of Words
Do you remember a time when a sentence twisted at just the right time and sent you into peals of laughter so hard you had to run to the bathroom? Or when a disrespectful insult or criticism pierced your heart so deep with shame that tears burned the back of your eyes? Words are powerful. They can heal and they can hurt.

Befriending Words
The custom of sending greeting cards has morphed over the years. What was once carefully written with a quill pen is now a well placed emoji sent in seconds. Way to go, Millennials. Thank you. A forgotten birthday can be redeemed and a friendship saved in the click of a mouse. I still like the old-fashioned way. I do both.

My Specialty
My passion is handwriting unique and personal cards to friends and family. Crocheting goes hand in glove with my writing (pun intended). I add heart or humor to preprinted words, fill up a blank card with encouraging thoughts, and crochet a gift I made just for them.

Blog Posts
My intent in setting up this website is to blog. Twenty years ago I heard about blogs and became enamored with the idea. It took me twenty years and seven hours to finally set up the website necessary to host my blog. I'm already finding it worth the tears and the fears of working with technology. Blogging suits me because they're flexible. They can be long or short; funny or touching; a poem, prose, hyperbole. A topic I would like to explore is how to make brussels sprouts taste good. For the record, in my experience that's not possible. They always have and always will stink in my mouth.

Essays
I write essays about mundane happenings, like the time I overdosed on cinnamon. Who knew that could happen? I did it because the cap fell off while I was putting cinnamon in my coffee. I didn't want to waste it. I did not know there was such a thing as a cinnamon challenge going on and that people were dying from it. If you want to read the whole story it's published in an anthology compiled by Lisa Colburn. The title of the book is Unfolding.

Micro Memoir, Hermit Crab Essay, Flash Fiction, Contests, Haiku, and Tanka
I enjoy trying whatever makes my heart sing. I've tried so hard (and still trying) to write my memoir, the "right" way, but the effort makes my soul shrink. However, I've discovered that everything I write is a memoir. The challenge of attempting something new, like those listed above, speaks to me. I enjoy writing short pieces where every word moves the story along. No fluff. When you read my blog, you will read my memoir in snippets and snaggles and spaghetti-like tangles. I have great faith that they will all come together to entertain and inspire.

Poetry and Music
Poetry grabs my heart, soul, mind, and strength. I don't just read the words -- I feel them. The rhythm, meter, rhyme, and cadence, every carefully chosen word, blend together to paint a masterpiece that carries me along on the strokes of its brush. It's no surprise that music stirs the same emotions in me - for in its truest form, like poetry, music is a beautifully crafted work of art.
